My dad had a half brother who died young. He had been adopted by my grandfather when he was 3 months old. His adopted name was Ronald Raymond Hill b. June 2, 1945 in Spearfish, SD ( ) and d. June 10, 1959 possibly near Casper, WY. The story is that his father was full blood Native American. From what my grandmother told me the one and only time she ever mentioned Ronny was that while my dad and grandfather were at my dad's little league game Ronny wanted to go listen to some records at a friends house. Some how there was a gun that was being played with and my uncle was shot in the heart and died instantly. He was 14 years old. My grandmother refuses to tell anyone who his bio father was. I am just interested in finding out what really happened to Ronny because the other stories from other family members don't match. The coroner in WY has no record of his death. I cannot find his birth or death or any record that he ever existed. I have been to his grave but I was very small and don't remember where and I have seen one picture of him at my grandmother's several years ago. Thanks for your help. Jenn

Your Grandpa Carl Raymond Hill was born 20 May, 1920where? i don't know died: 18 May, 1996 in Chugwater,Platte, WY he got his SSN card in Oregon before 1951. I suggest you get a copy of his obituary and see what clues you come up with.

My grandfather, Carl Raymond Hill, was born in Nebraska on May 20, 1920 and died in Wyoming on May 18, 1996. He adopted Ronny when Ronny was three months old...so around September 1945. There was no mention of Ronny in the obit...but then again there was no mention of my sister or me either.
I just don't know how to go about looking up birth or adoption records for him. Something just doesn't seem right to me about the whole thing so I don't know if he was ever really adopted or what last name he was given at birth. My dad was very close to his brother and would get mad at me and my sister whenever we would fight growing up. He always told us that we didn't know what could happen to destroy our lives and think before we use harsh words.
There is no paticular reason I can put into words as to why it is important to me to find out more about Ronny. It is just something that I have always wanted to know more about but didn't want to upset anyone by asking questions. Thank you for helping me.

jennjenn72: I know where you are coming from. Your dad's half sibling was a living ,breathing, person, not a name on a piece of paper. My ten siblings and i would squabble every so often, and my mom would tell us, that we were like the fingers of her hands. they all needed to work together in order for the hand to function. whan one finger is hurt, the rest ofthe hand hurts. do you know where and when your granddad married Myrtle? do you know if he was an enrolled member of the Santee, or another tribe? thtis where you might try looking for information. Was your dad an enrolledd member of a Tribe? do you know if your granddad served in world II? there may be a Draft registration record for him, that might provide more clues.Ie.where he was living when he registered, and this would tellus what county and state to check out for more information on him and hopefully his children( including his adopted son). did you check out the county courthouse for Spearfish South Dakota to see if there may be adoption records there? i hope this information will help you.
You might want to get a copy of your granddad's death certificate from wyoming,ie. the county courthouse for Platte county wyoming.

Hermin- Thanks for understanding. My dad is actually waiting on his "blue card" right now. I guess he applied about eight years ago but it was lost so he recently reapplied and was just sent something saying it would take 4-8 months or something along those lines.
I am not sure how my grandfather's death certificate will help me find out about Ronny??? Carl had "adopted" Ronny when Ronny was about three months old. I think I need to look into things on the Hale side...maybe they know something. Something just doesn't seem right when I start looking for anything about Ronny. His "adopted" name was Ronald Raymond Hill. I just feel like I will never find anything more.
I am going to check a few other things today and let you know how it turns out.
Thanks!
Jenn
